Reviews for the Dell Vostro 1220

80% Dell Vostro 1220 review
Source: PC Advisor English
The Dell Vostro 1220 is an ultraportable 12in Dell laptop aimed at business users. Slightly bigger than a netbook, the Dell Vostro 1220 runs faster, is much easier to use and has very good battery life. It's an affordable ultraportable notebook for anyone who wants a regular laptop with a small form factor at a good price. If you want a small laptop but yearn for more performance than a netbook can provide, the Dell Vostro 1220 is an excellent option. It's a fully featured 12.1in laptop with good speed and battery life. Its build quality isn't great, but the price is right.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: The graphics core of the Intel GL40 and GS40 chipset features a slower clocked GMA 4500MHD (400 versus 533 MHz). Because of the slower core speed, full Blu-Ray Logo support is not given and the gaming performance is a bit worse.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).

The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.

T6670: Entry level Core 2 Duo based on the Penryn core. Similar to the C2D T6600 but with VT-x Virtualization and higher temperature specification.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

12.1": This is a common display format for subnotebooks. Most netbooks have a tinier display. The advantage is, that the subnotebook can be small dimensioned and can be carried easily. Further the small display needs few energy, which improves the battery runtime and in consequence the mobility. The disadvantage is that the reading of texts is a bit exhausting for the eyes, especially with high resolutions.» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

1.6 kg: This sub-notebook weighs less than the average of all notebooks and represents a medium class of weight among the sub-notebooks. 11 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

Dell: Dell Inc. is a multinational technology corporation that develops, manufactures, sells, and supports personal computers and other computer-related products. Based in Texas, Dell employs more than 82,700 people worldwide (2009). In 2006, Dell purchased the computer hardware manufacturer Alienware. In most countries, the laptops are directly sold to consumers by Dell and each notebook custom-assembled according to a selection of options. Market share regarding sales of personal computers in 2007 (market research IDC): HP 18.9 %, Dell 16.4 %, Acer 9.9 %, Lenovo 7.5 %, Apple 5.7 %

80%: This rating is not convincing. The laptop is evaluated below average, this is not really a recommendation for purchase.
