Reviews for the Dell Latitude 11-5179

Dell’s Latitude 11 5179 has a lovely screen, great battery life and plenty of features and accessories, but at this kind of price, it’s let down by its rather lacklustre performance. At over £1,000 inc VAT, it’s very expensive for what it is - and that’s without the extra cost of a keyboard, don’t forget - and you’d be much better off spending that money on something more practical like the XPS 13, which has much better performance across the board as well as Dell’s gorgeous InfinityEdge display.

Model: The Dell Latitude 11 series targets at the professional crowd. Typically Dell, it is a highly customizable device to meet differing needs of those who mean business. The Latitude 11 5179 can be used in its traditional tablet mode, in its stand mode or even as a laptop with the external keyboard. Its dimensions measure at 280 mm x 177 mm x 14.3 mm and it weighs 0.76 kg. It is not one of the lightest tablets around and may not be comfortable for prolonged usage while standing. Its aluminium frame contributes significantly to its bulk, yet at the expense of a solid and sturdy frame. Dell claims that it passes 14 MIL-SPEC tests, the same standards required of US military equipment. It is powered by a 1.1 GHz Intel Core m5-6Y57 dual core processor (same processor as in the Latitude 13) with Intel HD 515 graphics chip. Memory options range between 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM, and the storage options available are either 128 GB or 256 GB of SSD storage. It is shipped with Windows 10 Pro.
Its 10.8 inch Full-HD IPS touchscreen display is no less disappointing. Colors appear bright with strong details. Brightness is also very good for usage under bright lighting. The Gorilla Glass screen provides the much needed protection in the event of hard falls. The Latitude 11 5179 is not shipped with a keyboard and users can choose either the slim or regular keyboard. The first will be slimmer and lighter but it lacks the added features of the latter such as an integrated battery and an Active Pen stylus. Battery life is also impressive whereby it is capable of clocking over nine hours of continuous video playback. Connectivity options are aplenty on the Latitude 11 5179 and include a microSD card slot, micro HDMI for connecting it to an external display, a USB 3.0 port as well as a USB3 Type-C port. What differs the Latitude 11 5179 from the 5175 model is the addition of a smartcard reader and a fingerprint scanner on the back.
Network connectivity is supported by 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1, and a SIM card can be inserted to include a mobile data option. The sound quality is pretty decent on its dual-facing speakers. It sports both front- and rear- facing cameras. Overall, the Latitude 11 5179 is a notable device which would appeal to professionals who requires solid performance to be brought on the go. In many ways, the Dell Latitude 11 mimics its more superior XPS siblings, and its lower price factor may succeed in swaying users to choose in its favour. It is also a good tablet for industrial usage as it is strong enough to survive a few drops and bumps.

This is a standard display format for tablet computers or small convertibles. You see more on the screen than on a smartphone but you can't use big resolutions well. On the other hand, mobility is not a problem.

73.17%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
