The Dell Inspiron 15R-1847MRB is a good starter desktop replacement laptop for dabbling in video and photo editing, as well as taking in the latest Blu-ray flicks. It meets the performance criteria for all tasks except for 3D gaming and in battery life. Alternatively, you'll get much battery life and similar speeds from the Acer Aspire AS5820T-5951 or the Sony VAIO VPC-EB33FM/BJ, our Editors' Choice in the budget laptop category. If you are into 3D gaming, check out the HP Pavilion dv7-4283cl or Dell XPS 15, our Editors' Choice in the desktop replacement category.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

380M: The Core i3-380M is a fast clocked Core i3. The TurboBoost, AES, VTd, and Trusted Execution functions are deactivated in the i3-series. Therefore, it always clocks with max. 2.53 GHz (of course Speedstep is included). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

15.6": 15 inch display-variants are the standard and are used for more than the half of all notebooks. 15.4 inch display with 16:10 are the standard for notebook displays. However nowadays, more and more 16:9 displays with 15.6 inch appear. The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

2.7 kg: This notebook is lighter than the average of all notebooks. It is too heavy for sub-notebooks. 14 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.
