A well-known leaker recently claimed that Capcom was focusing on potential remakes rather than pursuing development of Resident Evil 8. However, a new rumor sent to Biohazard Declassified’s tipline has stated that there will be a Resident Evil 8 of sorts, but it won’t actually have that specific name. Zombies and werewolves are expected to make an appearance.

Just as it looked like Resident Evil 8 was no more, a new rumor has sprouted up suggesting that the game is alive and well. An email sent to Biohazard Declassified gave an interesting rundown of what fans of the series can expect from the game, including the possibility that it won’t even be called Resident Evil 8. Apparently, it will feature a “clever title,” and encouragingly for believers it was even in a testing phase last year.

Zombies, not Resident Evil 7’s Molded, will be dotting the landscape along with some wolf-like monsters. As for Resident Evil’s more human characters, it’s alleged that both Ethan Winters (from RE7) and Resident Evil icon Chris Redfield will be turning up for Resident Evil 8. Ethan will be the main playable character, while Chris’ full role is unknown. Gameplay takes place from a first-person perspective, with somewhere in Europe being the possible main setting. The player will have to explore a village that leads to a castle, with the terrain dominated by snow and mountains.

Resident Evil 8 could also feature a spooky female phantom that constantly follows the main character and disappears when shot at. It’s quite a lot of detailed information for a rumor, and fans of the series will no doubt be delighted if it all turns out to be genuine. Capcom has yet to confirm details about Resident Evil 8 although there is a possibility something concrete might turn up at the expected PlayStation 5 reveal in February.
