80% Review: CyberPower Fangbook EVO HX7-200 taps 4th-gen Core for high-end gaming
Source: PC World English Archive.org version
The FangBook Evo HX7-200 is one of the first Haswell notebooks out of the gate, so it's too early to know if CyberPower’s offering will be the best of the bunch. If you're wondering whether Intel's fourth-generation Core processors are worth the investment, the answer is an emphatic yes. Knowing whether this particular machine is worth $1,600 is a much tougher question, but it is a solid value.

If you see the Fangbook EVO HX7-150 in person, you will realize that this is an incredibly large system. The weight and size are its biggest distractions that any buyer needs to be aware of. Those that don't mind that it is not the most portable though will find a lot to like in a system that offers some solid PC gaming performance especially for its price which is probably one of the least to get a GTX 770M graphics processor.

Cyberpower Fangbook EVO HX6-105

Cyberpower has been busy establishing itself as one of the leading names in gaming laptops and has recently launched the Fangbook EVO series with one particular model called the HX6. Compared to other laptops produced by Cyberpower, this particular gaming laptop is relatively smaller, sporting measurements of 15.09 x 9.83 x 1.46 inches (38.33 x 24.97 x 3.71 cm). At the heart of this machine is an Intel Core i5 4210 M Haswell processor which comes packed with an equally impressive NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M graphics card with 2 GB VRAM. It weighs around 2.4 kg, which is pretty standard for gaming laptops that share the same range of specs. The laptop design comes in a shiny smooth black finish with reddish orange borders around the keyboard panel. The keypad itself is considerably comfortable to use without any annoying drag or delay. It is lit from the back with the same reddish orange light that decorates the borders, as well as a sizeable touchpad. The 15.6 inch screen features a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and a glossy surface, which is ideal for dim room gaming. There is an on-board RAM of 8 GB DDR3-1600, which can be expanded to 16 GB, as well as numerous add-ons like a HD webcam, HDMI output and 2 in 1 memory card reader. What makes it really stand out among its competitors is its extremely reasonable price tag, ideal for the budget conscious young adult.

Well, the HX6-105 is a good machine for $800 for gamers, as of now. Gaming performance is very good for $800 and you won’t find faster stuff as of the writing of these lines – same as the Y50, VN7-591G and other models with GTX 860M GPU, it also has some extra nice features like the nice backlit keyboard and additional storage bays. Touchpad and keyboard are good and looks are ok though maybe a bit outdated.

80% Cyberpower Fangbook Evo HX6-100 review
Source: Expert Reviews English Archive.org version
Overall, the Cyberpower Fangbook HX6-100 is a well-rounded desktop replacement laptop with an interesting, albeit divisive design. It has a powerful processor and a good dedicated graphics card and matches its 15.6in rivals in terms of specifications and price. Its screen is better than most, which is a notable selling point. It's not a well built as the thin and beautiful Acer V15 Nitro, though, although that laptop is £50 more expensive. However, if you were looking to spend £800 on a powerful laptop, the Cyberpower Fangbook HX6-100 is a great choice. Our only minor point is that the collect and return warranty only lasts a month, after which point it turns into RTB cover that requires the buyer to pay for return postage.

Cyberpower: CyberPower, Inc. is (as they assert theirselves) one of the nation-wide leading computer system manufacturers. As published in the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2003, they were the fastest growing private company in Los Angeles.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M: High-end graphics card of the GeForce 700M series based on the Kepler architecture.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M: Upcoming high-end graphics card for laptops and part of the 700M series.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M: Upper mid-range graphics card from the GeForce GTX 800M series.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

4700MQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.4 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

4710MQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.5 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

Intel Core i5:

4210M: Haswell-based dual-core processor clocked at 2.6 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.2 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

2.4 kg:

3.9 kg:

A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.

80%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
