China first to get Surface Pro outside of North America
Microsoft’s Surface tablets haven't amassed the sales Microsoft expected in North America, and they’re hoping international sales can help make up the difference. While the Surface tablet, which runs Windows RT, has been available globally, the Windows 8-powered Surface Pro has been exclusive to the US and Canada, though that is now set to change.
In a blog post on the social networking site Weibo, Microsoft announced that China will be the first region outside of North America to receive the Surface Pro tablet. Available in 64GB and 128GB flavors, the tablet also features a 10.6" 1920x1080 pixel display and is powered by an Intel Core i5 CPU. No price has been officially set for the Chinese market, but it should be available starting next Tuesday, the 2nd of April.
This news comes on the heels of Microsoft announcing a partnership with Chinese online retailer Tmall, giving them a greater online presence in the region. It is not known if the Surface Pro will be available through Tmall, but the store already sells the Surface tablet and it would appear to be a likely destination for the Pro model.
