Bluboo Maya Max

It is amazing to see the amount of smartphones the Middle Kingdom is relentlessly churning out and it is even more amazing to learn how these manufacturers succeed in keeping the cost moderate. The Chinese manufacturer, Bluboo, may not be a household name compared to the likes of Oppo or Vivo, yet its devices have garnered much attention. The Maya Max is a big 6-inch smartphone with a budget price tag. With its low price factor, one would expect that the smartphone would be largely plastic-built. However, this device’s body is constructed from aluminium alloy which makes the smartphone solid and weighty when gripped. Its dimensions measure at 16.23 x 8.18 x 1.35 cm (6.39 x 3.22 x 0.35 inch) and it weighs 211g (including battery). Display-wise, the Maya Max does not disappoint as well. It is flanked with a 6.0 inch wide HD screen with IPS (with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels). Considering its large screen, this resolution is rather low. Nevertheless, visuals and images still appear bright and clear for normal usage. On its performance side, it is powered by a MTK6750 Octa Core CPU with 3 GB of RAM. Although arguably lacking in RAM when compared to many of its rivals with 4GB, it remains powerful as gaming and multitasking on this smartphone fare well. Built in storage available is 32 GB. The storage capacity can be expanded by 64GB with a microSD card. For the shutterbugs, it comes with 13 MP back camera with flashlight and a 5.0 MP front facing camera. The primary rear camera is a CMOS sensor, and can shoot in up to 1080p at 30 frames per second. Features included with this camera are autofocus, continuous shooting, digital zoom, geotagging, panorama, HDR, touch focus, face detection, white balance settings, ISO settings, exposure compensation, self-timer and scene mode. A circular fingerprint scanner sits at the rear side of the smartphone just below the camera. Gestures can be easily customized for unlocking purposes and ID recognition, thus improving security and convenience. Not lacking is an FM radio and audio quality on this smartphone is remarkable. Built with a dual-sim mode, users can use two micro SIM cards at once on this phone. Connectivity is supported by WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth. It is also fitted with the USB type C port with OTG support. The Bluboo Maya Max runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It comes in two colour variants, i.e. gold and silver. NFC however is not included. Nevertheless, this smartphone will still capture the budget conscious who are looking out for a well-built device. Hands-On-Artikel von Jagadisa Rajarathnam

Bluboo Maya Max: Massive potential but massive disappointment (phone review)
Source: Android Guys English Archive.org version
If you’re afraid of buying a Chinese phone from a site like Gearbest, this review is not going to do you any favors. This is pretty much the worst case scenario. Luckily for me, Bluboo supplied the review units so I’m not out any money, but I could easily see that happening to someone. There are a lot of great companies making wonderful devices that haven’t hit the shores of the US yet and I would encourage you to do you research to see how they deal with their customers when you’re making a purchase. Don’t let this one case scare you off.

Bluboo:

In 2009, the Shenzhen Huihua Exploit Technology Co LTD established the brand Bluboo in Hong Kong. The brand is focused on smartphones.

Internationally, the brand is not too important. There are hardly any reviews, and in the few cases, the rating is rather underwhelming (as of 2016).

6.00:

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.

72.5%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
