Blackberry: BlackBerry tablet to be announced next week?

Teaser
RIM’s long-rumored “BlackPad” might finally prove to be a reality if WSJ is to be believed

You must have inevitably come across rumors from the RIM camp pertaining to a mystery BlackBerry tablet. Well the Wall Street Journal has reported that the veil over the tablet will be lifted next week at the Developer Conference to be held by the Company in San Francisco. The tablet has not been christened as of yet but is informally being called the “BlackPad”.

As for the technical details, the operating system will be that of QNX, and as speculated earlier, Wi-Fi will be the sole means of connectivity offered on the device and tethering via a BlackBerry, which implies that a dedicated service plan becomes unnecessary. Also the tablet would not be sold on contract once it is out on the shelves.

The tablet is said to be manufactured using an unknown Marvell processor by developers at Quanta and the tablet launch is being rumored to be massive, considering that it is so eagerly anticipated across the market, although it may disappoint on the Foleo Style aspect. Nevertheless, that will not in any way prove to be a dampener as far as sales are concerned.

The Wall Street Journal also claimed in recent reports that RIM is considering switching all its devices to the QNX operating system in the near future. As for the name, “BlackPad” is pretty tricky as it will prove to be a major marketing obstacle in terms of selling the tablet in any other color than black. Well seriously, if you ask us, we’d stick with the saying- What’s in a name! And that stands truer for a gadget, the insides matter more.
