The refresh brings a Snapdragon 800 processor and a microSD slot to the hybrid

The Asus Padfone Infinity is certainly a unique product, and while the original received mixed reviews praising the idea if not necessarily the implementation of the smartphone/tablet, that hasn't stopped Asus from launching a refresh.

The new Padfone Infinity smartphone features a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS display, a quad-core 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2 GB RAM, 16 or 32 GB of internal memory, Android 4.2.2, a 13 MP back-facing camera, a 2 MP front-facing camera, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac wifi, Bluetooth 4.0, a microSD slot (up to 64 GB cards), and a 2400 mAh battery. The tablet portion adds a 10.1-inch 1920 x 1200 IPS display and a 5000 mAh battery. An unexpected perk of the refresh is that the new smartphone is also compatible with the previous version of the tablet dock for those who already owned one.

A phone that can be docked in a tablet when a larger screen is needed is certainly an appealing prospect. It offers an interesting middle ground between opting for a phablet or just carrying around two separate devices.

The Padfone infinity is currently only available in select Asian markets. Prices in Taiwan start at US$640 for the smartphone portion and US$240 for the tablet portion. Availability and prices for other areas have not been announced.
