Asus and HTC deny rumours about possible merger

Teaser
The whole thing started when Asus’ chairman, Jonney Shih made headlines when he did not rule out a suggestion made at the company’s shareholder meeting, that Asus might be interested in taking over HTC.

Just a few days ago, rumours emerged stating that Asus is interested in purchasing HTC. Both companies have immediately reacted and clearly stated that such deal is not being considered.

HTC has even issued an official statement for the company’s investors, informing that they „didn’t contact Asustek and will not consider the acquisition. As an international brand, HTC will continue to design world-class innovative smart devices through its pursuit of brilliance brand promise.”

On Asus’ side, the Chief Financial Officer David Chang responded to the rumours by stressing that his company is focused on organic growth rather than acquisitions. He also added that Jonney Shih was barely „chatting about the topic internally”.

HTC shares price dropped down as much as 20% last week, after the company unveiled very low sales forecasts for the next quarter.
