CES 2017 | Asus ZenBook 3 Deluxe is the new big brother of the ZenBook 3
Earlier this year, the ZenBook 3 (UX390UA) won praise for its sleek (if not original) design, compact dimensions, strong performance, and premium feel. Its main downsides were the single USB Type-C port and the lack of Thunderbolt 3. The ZenBook 4 Deluxe (UX490UA) aims to remedy this by adding three USB Type-C ports, two of which support Thunderbolt 3. The screen has also been upsized to 14-inches, and thus the laptop is a bit thicker as a result.
Like its predecessor, the ZenBook 3 Deluxe uses Intel Core i5/i7 U-series processors, and supports up to 16 GB of RAM and a single 1TB PCIe SSD. Unlike the ZenBook 3, it has a larger (14-inch) display, three ports instead of one, and supports Thunderbolt 3. While the Deluxe is larger than the vanilla ZenBook 3 to accommodate the screen and ports, it is only marginally so—it still measures a mere 0.5 inches at it's thickest point. As a benefit of the increased thickness, the keyboard travel has been bumped up to 1.2mm from the 0.8mm of its smaller brother.
These extras don't come cheap, however. While the UX390UA started at US$999, the UX490UA will start at US$1699. It will be available in May.
