89% Review Asus Vivo Tab RT TF600 Tablet | Notebookcheck
The battle begins. The Microsoft Surface RT was the first device that introduced the world to the newest version of Windows and the first one to run on the ARM architecture. Asus is well known in the industry to make the best quality tablets other than Apple. Asus is hoping this to be another feather in their cap.

Ultimately, Asus’ VivoTab RT gets the hardware side of things almost spot on: it’s gorgeous, lightweight and beautifully designed. But until the software starts to deliver on its promises, lovely hardware just isn't enough.

Tablets are all about the experience of software married to hardware. The Asus Vivo Tab's solid hardware provides the makings of a good experience, and Windows RT is a good foundation for that experience. But Windows RT's many software quirks and omissions may limit the Vivo Tab's audience to dedicated PC users who've recently purchased a Windows 8 laptop or desktop, and want to extend their new Modern UI software purchases across both systems. The inclusion of Office Home & Student 2014 RT gives the Vivi Tab RT an edge, but that edge would have been greater still with a better keyboard dock.

The Asus Vivo Tab RT certainly scores well on battery life, innovation, and portability. Usability, on the other hand, is a mixed bag. It comes with Office RT, a must-have program for workers and students, but the 3,000 app selection from the various apps stores (Windows Store, Asus@Vibe, and Xbox Games) are paltry in comparison to the hundreds of thousands of apps on the iTunes Store, tens of thousands on Google Play, and millions of apps for Windows 7 and 8. Until the Windows Store really gets going, you'll still find a better selection of apps on an iPad or Android tablet. That said, if what you need is a physical keyboard, phenomenal battery life, Microsoft Office, and the Web, the Asus Vivo Tab RT is an intriguing choice.

Overall, we like the Asus VivoTab 810 a lot and think it's a good unit to consider if you want a Windows 8-based tablet with long battery life that can be used for Web browsing, watching videos and even working on office documents. We like its keyboard dock and also the fact that it comes with a digitiser pen. However, the price tag is a little high and too comparable to the price of many convertible Core i5-based Ultrabooks for our liking, even taking in to account the keyboard dock.

So does the ASUS VivoTab measure up as a Windows 8 tablet that can quickly transform into a functional laptop? The answer is a mixed bag – while the keyboard dock is an excellent idea, it’s actual usability is hampered by uncomfortable keys and the fact that it adds considerable weight and thickness to the device. The bundled stylus is a unique addition, but is yet another thing that you’ll have to carry around or stow away safely if you end up using it. Sans the keyboard dock, the ASUS VivoTab is a great Windows 8 tablet that could use a few more tweaks to make it truly incredible.

Unbalanced. Use real Windows 8 in a tablet or notebook. There seem to be no boundaries for the productivity: the familiar Office-package works, frequent writers will love the keyboard and the battery runtime is gigantic. So why this title?

These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.

NVIDIA GeForce ULP (Tegra 3): Integrated Ultra Low Power (ULP) graphics card in the Tegra 3 SoC. Similar to the Tegra 2 GPU but with additional pixel shaders and optimizations.

PowerVR SGX545:

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

NVIDIA :

Tegra 3: High-End-SoC for tablets and large smartphones which integrates 4 ARM Cortex A9 Cores and a power saving companion core. Furthermore, a GeForce LP GPU is included that is based on the old GeForce 7.

Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).

Z2760: Soc with integrated dual core Atom processor clocked at up to 1.8 GHz (only Turbo?), a PowerVR SGX 545 based GPU clocked at 533 MHz and a dual channel LPDDR2-800 memory controller.

10.1: The netbook/subnotebook has a quite small display format. Nonetheless, it is a common format for netbooks. The advantage is, that the subnotebook/netbook can be small dimensioned and can be carried easily. Further the small display has the advantage, that it needs few energy, which improves the battery runtime and in consequence the mobility. The disadvantage is that the reading of texts is a bit exhausting for the eyes. It is difficult to use high resolutions.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

0.525 kg:

This subnotebook is one of the most lightweight of all notebooks and can be carried very easily. There exist hardly any models in this extreme class of weight. 7-9 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

1.353 kg:

This subnotebook is one of the most lightweight of all notebooks and can be carried very easily. There exist only few sub-notebooks, which weight less. 10 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

75.89%: This rating is not convincing. The laptop is evaluated below average, this is not really a recommendation for purchase.
