The U43Jc sells for $1100 from GenTech and the overall look and feel of the computer give a very positive impression. It also is powerful enough to run multimedia and some games while still lasting almost 4 hours while playing DVDs on battery power and longer when web surfing. Overall, it is a very good balance of looks, feel, power, and performance for the price. Asus has made some compromises in order to ensure that the U43Jc can be sold at the desired price point, and while a system with no compromises would have been even better, the resulting notebook would have ended up costing much more. As it is, the Asus U43Jc is a solid and versatile notebook with best-in-class looks that make it appear to cost much more than it actually does.

As far as laptops go, the Asus U43Jc is definitely a style statement with its bamboo screen lid and palmrest. The unit we tested sells for Rs. 70,000 and comes with very good hardware and features - even a USB 3.0 port and a quick-launch OS which most laptops don't have. It also has Nvidia Optimus for smooth, efficient graphics switching and management, and performs very well. But its less-than-optimum keyboard and touchpad spoiled the overall experience of an otherwise recommendable laptop. If you aren't mesmerized by its bamboo finish, the Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG is a much better deal. But for a unique-looking laptop, you can buy the Asus U43Jc Bamboo laptop with an Intel Core i3-370M processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB hard drive, and discrete Nvidia GeForce 310M graphics for a price of Rs. 61,999 -- the configuration we tested isn't available for customers.

The U43F’s an extremely stylish laptop PC that matches its superior aesthetics with good overall performance. It’ll turn heads and should excel as an everyday small business computer for business folk who are on the move.

All in all, it's hard not to appreciate, maybe even admire, the U43F. We wish the materials used were a bit more rigid and we wish the screen resolution was higher, but the price will be right as-is for a lot of users. At under $900, there aren't too many other notebooks in the market that are this stylish, this easy to use and this capable.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated, a Taiwanese multinational company, produces motherboards, graphics cards, optical drives, PDAs, computer monitors, notebook computers, servers, networking products, mobile phones, computer cases, computer components, and computer cooling systems. The company's 2007 revenues reached US$6.9 billion. ASUS also produces components for other manufacturers. The Eee PC initiated the netbook boom in 2008.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
NVIDIA GeForce 310M: The GeForce 310M is the successor of the GeFore G210M and based on the same chip with very similar clock rates (shader speed +30MHz to 1530MHz).
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M: Entry level graphics card based on the new GF119 chip with a 64 Bit memory bus or on the GF108 with 128 Bit memory bus but lower clock rates.
These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 900: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 is an integrated (onboard) graphic chip with shared memory on Mobile Intel 915GM chipset. It is the predecessor of Graphics Media Accelerator 950. The performance can be compared with the Mobile Radeon 9000 (with a 64 bit memory bus).
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
Intel Core i5:
450M: Should be similar to the Core i5-520M but without AES functions.
540M: The Core i5-540M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-620M) and clocks between 2.53-3.06 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD 3150) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
2520M: Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
14.0: 14 inch display size is a mixture between the small formats of subnotebooks and the 15 inch standard display. The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
2.3 kg:
These sub-notebooks weight less than the average of all notebooks, but represent a heavier class of weight among the sub-notebooks. 13 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.
2.4 kg:
This notebook is lighter than the average of all notebooks. It is too heavy for sub-notebooks. 14 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.
72%: This rating is bad. Most notebooks are better rated. This is not a recommendation for purchase.
