The ASUS N750JV brings you the latest processing technology in a large, 17.3in form factor. Apart from some issues that we had with its input devices and audio, we think it's a good unit to consider if you want something capable of replacing a desktop in the home or office.

The Asus N750 is one of the best 17 inch multimedia laptops of the moment. Sleeker and lighter than most of its competitors, it's still very powerful and offers good battery life for such a machine. But while there's nothing really bothering me on this machine, there are still plenty that leave room for improvement.

Model:
The Asus N750JV-T4109H is marketed as a multimedia laptop and so meant to be perfect for entertainment. Its expansive 17.3 inch screen and weight of 3.3 kg places it firmly in the desktop replacement category. One thoughtful unique feature is an audio jack that enables output of audio to home theater devices. The feel of the laptop is lush and premium, with aluminum all over. The design is beautiful and sleek, with a well made and sturdy hinge. Typing on the keyboard is decently comfortable and the backlit keys are responsive and pleasant, but unfortunately feel a little plastic. The screen with high resolution is a pleasure to view even though it doesn’t quite display brilliant color and definition – but this machine is a powerhouse that can play the highest resolution video you can find without stuttering of lagging. This is due to the top of the line components that make this laptop perfect for intensive photo and audio editing and intermediate video editing. The laptop is also easily upgradable, making it perfect for those looking to maximize the performance.
Those playing intensive games every now and then will find the Asus N750JV-T4109H perfect for their needs as it can run most demanding games at medium settings. Although it won’t satisfy the hardcore gamers, it is one of the best performing machines out there at its price. For such a powerful desktop replacement, it has a surprisingly good battery life of 5 hours during light browsing and text editing. The Asus N750JV-T4109H is great value for the money, and is powerful and aesthetically pleasing. It easily blows the competition out of the water.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M: Upper mid-range graphics card of the GeForce GT 700M series. Based on the Kepler architecture and manufactured by TSMC in a 28nm process.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
4700MQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.4 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
3.3 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.

70%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
