Source: PC Perspective English
The notebook we are looking at today is the G2 notebook which comes outfitted with a ATI Radeon Mobility X1700, a large 17" LCD screen, and some unique lighting features. In the end, I think the Asus G2 is a good gaming product for the mid-range market. It doesn't break the bank like your typical SLI notebook and provides some decent game performance. The Asus G2 is a well rounded product offering a excellent balance of price, CPU performance, gaming ability, and slick style. However, if you're really serious about gaming I would suggest researching other models as they may prove to offer more gaming bang for the buck.

Asus G2P Review

Overall this laptop was fun to use; the red accents make this notebook stand out. The performance and specs of the laptop matches most 15.4” notebooks, but in terms of graphics and other 17” notebook there is much to be desired. The notebook is geared towards people looking for an excellent screen, and good CPU performance and average graphical power. It is a desktop replacement for midrange performance and those who wouldn’t mind using a relatively low native resolution. In the end the notebook did meet all my needs in a 17” notebook, except for graphics. Like many we would want something much more powerful like a 7900GS or GTX or an ATI comparable solution. The price is also a bit steep for what you are getting when considering the GPU can be improved. Look forward to other 17” gaming laptops, and possibly the rumored Asus G3.

ASUS G2P - Gaming Specific Notebook
Source: Hot Hardware English
All in all, we are very impressed with our initial take on the new ASUS G2P gaming notebook. Within a few short weeks, we'll be provided with a complete retail package and will be running the system through its paces to see how it stacks up against the other gaming notebooks on the market. At that time, we'll also be showing you a few tricks the ASUS G2P still has up its virtual sleeve. Until then, this preview should let you know that there is a new player in the enthusiast gaming notebook market. Although they have served as an ODM for several of their competitors in this segment, ASUS is now wanting a piece of the pie themselves and are taking this market seriously.

100% ASUS G2S-B2 Desktop Replacement Laptop
Source: Comp Reviews English
ASUS has produced a very powerful and forward thinking system with the G2S-B2 desktop replacement. This notebook has some of the best performance available for consumers. It excels in just about any type of applications but falters somewhat as a gaming platform as the graphics are limited by a smaller amount of dedicated memory.

Asus regularly wows us with innovative products such as the ultraportable $399 Eee PC and experiments with secondary Sideshow displays, but how does the company fare building a typical 17-inch gaming system? While high-end gaming rigs from Alienware can run more than $3,000, the Asus G1 gives you a decent set of specs--a few steps down from the top-of-the-line--for a reasonable $1,999 (although the Toshiba X205 offers twin SLI GPUs and a slower processor for the same price). The G2's unique look is a nice change of pace from the corporate Dell/Gateway/etc. design philosophies, but serious gamers will need more video-card muscle than the included Nvidia GeForce 8600 will provide. The G2S has a decidedly industrial flair, with a brushed-metal lid and wrist rest and black interior.

ASUS has been catching the eye of many Best Buy customers with its newest gaming laptops. Both the ASUS G1S and ASUS G2S offer cool design elements and flashy colors. The bigger of the two, the G2S, is a sleek 17-inch laptop that the company is touting as the total gaming package. While it hits that mark with the 1,920-by-1,200 screen resolution and the crimson highlights (as opposed to the G1S's wasabi-green trim), the processing parts wouldn't necessarily give you bragging rights at LAN parties. But at $1,850 (street), it might be the perfect laptop for weekend and entry-level gamers.
While the G1S focused on an all-black exterior, the G2S's lid is plated with brushed aluminum against the contrasting black trimmings, a nice touch. The cover's handsomeness contrasts starkly with the series of tacky crimson streaks that run down the outer edge of the screen and extend into the keyboard area.

Despite a lack of portability, this gaming rig holds its own when it comes to graphics, display, and gaming experience. Reliable and relatively sturdy, the Asus G2S-A1 isn't as portable as some gaming rigs, and it's not quite able to compete against the most tricked-out and egregiously priced models on the market. But it still has plenty going for it, including DirectX 10 graphics, a knockout display, and a solid gaming experience.
The G2S-A1's display is noticeably wide and deepe, at 16 x 12 x 1.8 inches. The G2S-A1's physical layout is similar to Asus' G1 notebook, with the biggest exception being the accents. The G2S-A1's body is black with red inlays and lights, versus the previous generation's black body with green accents. In addition to the typical ports and slots, you'll find four USB ports on the back, along with eSATA and HDMI ports.

Review: First impressions Asus G2 S1
Source: notebookforums.com English
I finally resolved to replace my old Sager 5660, with it's 'custom' home made metal LCD hinges (the case cracked) after 4 years of good service. I wanted to keep my investment at about $2000; I already have a dual SLI gaming rig, but I wanted a laptop that would game. When I found out about this Asus, I was intrigued. The specs seemed good for the price, and my main rig uses an Asus MOBO, as does my server, so I purchased it from ZipZoomFly. When it arrived I tore into it like it was Xmas, so sorry, I have no pictures of how it was boxed. But it was very well packed, a large box, with the backpack, and a smaller box inside with the laptop and accessories. ZipZoom had placed that box into a larger box, and surrounded it with popcorn so all arrived in good shape. My first thought on seeing this laptop is 'oh gosh, it's big!'

Asus G2S-A1 Review
Source: Notebookreview.com English
The Asus G2S-A1 is classified as a "desktop replacement" laptop due to the size of the screen, which measures 17.1 inches, and its weight which comes in at 9.6 pounds. I opted to add one gigabyte of RAM, for a total of three, as my only configuration change from stock. This is my first laptop. I decided to purchase the G2S-A1 because I don't think I will be moving it around all that much. Once I narrowed my choices down to one brand, I had to choose between the 15.4 inch G1S-A1 or the 17.1 inch G2S-A1. I do tend to travel about once a month, but plan to leave the laptop in place once I reach my destination. While at home I move about from place to place in the house thanks to the wireless networking, but tend to set up camp in one area for a few hours to most of the day. I also like to play games both at home and away, so I opted for the larger screen and higher resolution of the G2S-A1. I am extremely happy with my purchase of the Asus G2S-A1. I feel that this laptop will provide me with many years of service and enjoyment. GenTech Computers was more than helpful in the purchase process and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Gaming for everyone. Affordably cheap gaming pleasure for consumers is the aim of the Asus G2K. The visually outstanding 17 inch desktop replacement has a very bright display and a wide range of interfaces such as HDMI and S-ATA ports. An AMD Turion 64 X2 CPU with 2.2 GHz as well as an ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600 graphics card take care of the performance. Asus reviews

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

ATI Mobility Radeon X1700: Successor of the X1600 and because of strained silicium process it can achieve a higher performance with the same current consumption (more shaders). The Avivo video engine helps decoding (HD) videos.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT: The NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT is the DirectX 10 capable successor of the GeForce Go 7600 GT GPU for laptops. Depending on the used graphic memory and the clock speed,  the performance is between the 7600 GT and 7900 GS video card.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600: This is a DirectX 10 graphic card from ATI and direct competitor to the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS graphic card for laptops and performs in games much better than the Nvidia card.

NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT: The NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT is a DirectX 10 capable video card with 32 Stream Precessors like the 8600M GT, but the core-, shader- and memory clock is higher. Therefore the performance is somewhat above the 8600M GT.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).

The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.

T7200: Mid-range (at the time of annoucement) dual core processor based on the Merom core.

T7500:

The Core 2 Duo T7500 is a Merom based Core 2 Duo with 4MB Level 2 Cache. It is positioned in the middle class (in 2009) and performs on par with a modern P7550 or Turion II Ultra M640/M660.

T9300:

The T9300 is a fast middle class dual core CPU for laptops and similar to the T9400 but with a lower FSB.

AMD Turion 64 X2: AMD Turion 64 X2 is intended to be positioned against the Intel Core Duo was presented in 17. May 2006. The current consumption is not higher than with Centrino-Duo-notebooks (TL-45 with ATI Xpress and Mobility Radeon X300). This means, that approximative the same battery runtime and fan functions can be expected (with this chipset). However, the performance was 20% below the T2300 (1.66 GHz) due to the lower L2 Cache (Core Duo has 2048 Kbyte shared L2 Cache). Nevertheless, the performance is sufficient.

TL-64:

In 65nm produced dual-core processor based on the K8 core. Compareable performance to a 2.0 GHz Core Duo CPU with 1MB Level 2 Cache (Celeron Dual Core e.g.).

17.0: Meanwhile the 17 inch display size is a more frequently offered standard format for desktop-replacements. The DTR-laptops can't be carried easily, need much energy but on the other side texts can be read easily and high resolutions are no problem. DTR mainly are intended for stationary usage on desks, where the weight and the energy need are unimportant.

17.1: Meanwhile the 17 inch display size is a more frequently offered standard format for desktop-replacements. The DTR-laptops can't be carried easily, need much energy but on the other side texts can be read easily and high resolutions are no problem. DTR mainly are intended for stationary usage on desks, where the weight and the energy need are unimportant.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

4.02 kg:

This laptop is heavy below average, compared with the average of notebooks. Therefore especially desktop replacements fit in this class of weight.

4.4 kg:

82.48%: This rating should be considered to be average. This is because the proportion of notebooks which have a higher rating is approximately equal to the proportion which have a lower rating.
