Astro City Mini: Sega presents a retro mini arcade preloaded with 36 games
Sega has announced a new mini retro console, following on from the Game Gear Micro and Mega Drive Mini that the company has already released. To eliminate any confusion, the Genesis Mini and Mega Drive Mini are the same device. The new machine is called the Astro City Mini after the arcade cabinet that Sega released in Japan in 1993.
According to an interview with Game Watch, the Astro City Mini will come preloaded with 36 games, including classics like Altered Beast and Virtua Fighter. Sega is yet to confirm the full roster of games that will be included, but it has stated that the following 10 games will be pre-installed:
- Alien Syndrome
- Alien Storm
- Altered Beast
- Columns II
- Dark Edge
- Fantasy Zone
- Golden Axe
- Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder
- Puzzle & Action: Tant-R
- Virtua Fighter
Sega has also confirmed that the Astro City Mini will feature an HDMI output, along with two USB Type-A ports, a headphone jack and a micro USB port. It is unknown whether the device will be powered via the mains or from the battery, but it will include "proper microswitches" according to The Verge. The Astro City Mini will be available in Japan towards the end of the year for JPY 12,800 (~US$119). There is no word on an international release yet, either.
