If you own a pair of AirPods Pro that produce crackling or static sounds, then Apple will replace them for free. The replacement program also applies to units where active noise cancellation is not working as expected. Apparently, a design flaw is the reason why some of these issues have been occurring.

The AirPods Pro may be some of the most expensive earbuds around, but a high price does not mean that they are free from issues. The AirPods Pro has proven incredibly popular too, but some units are suffering from audio issues, such as crackling, static and malfunctioning active noise cancellation (ANC). However, Apple has recognised the issue and vows to replace any affected units for free.

Apple states that affected AirPods Pro units will exhibit at least one of the following behaviours:

  • Crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments, with exercise or while talking on the phone
  • Active Noise Cancellation not working as expected, such as a loss of bass sound, or an increase in background sounds, such as street or airplane noise

Please note that Apple has only included the AirPods Pro in this program. Additionally, Apple claims that 'affected units were manufactured before October 2020'. Only the earbuds will be replaced too, not the charging case.

If your AirPods Pro suffer from either of the issues described above, then you can have Apple or an Authorised Service Provider replace the earbuds for free. You can find links for contacting an Authorised Service Provider, making an Apple Retail Store appointment or contacting Apple Support on Apple's Service Program page.
