Apple launches third-generation AirPods for US$179 with several quality of life improvements and a redesign
Apple has revealed the third-generation AirPods, but do not call them the AirPods 3. As expected, this year's AirPods feature a new design that resembles the AirPods Pro. However, the earbuds do not support any ear tips, still a distinguishing element for Apple's Pro earbuds.
Additionally, the third-generation AirPods support Spatial Audio, new drivers and Adaptive EQ. Likewise, the new AirPods utilise Dolby Atmos in Apple Music and contain Force sensor controls. Moreover, Apple has included MagSafe charging, making the new AirPods compatible with iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series charging accessories. Incidentally, Apple has improved battery life to 6 hours of continuous playback.
Apple's new AirPods are available to order today for US$179. The earbuds will make their way to stores later this month and should start shipping on October 26 in most countries. Unfortunately, the third-generation AirPods will only be available in white. Apple did not address the prospect of releasing the new AirPods in any other colours.
