Apple, Samsung exploring solar technology for future products

The two mobile technology giants could be planning to leverage Taiwanese solar cell firms in their quest to make greener products

As the whole world goes gaga over green technology – Apple and Samsung are actually planning something solid for a product that generates possibly one of the worst categories of waste. The two companies could be planning to leverage solar energy to power their future products – as reported by Digitimes. In fact Samsung is already planning a solar-powered netbook called NC215S that was supposed to release in the US on July 3rd, but now delayed till next month.

To manufacture solar panels, both the companies might want to leverage Taiwan’s solar cell manufacturing firms. It would be easier for them as almost their entire notebook and smartphone components are being manufactured in Taiwan.

It is not clear which products will have solar panels, but one thing for sure – the larger the surface, the larger can be the solar panel. Now it will be interesting to see how this convention gets broken.
