Amazon already experiencing Transformer Prime shortages

Teaser
The online retailer reportedly axed a number of pre-orders for the Asus tablet due to presumably low supply and unexpectedly high demand

Even though the device has yet to launch, the quad-core Asus tablet is already red hot in pre-order numbers. In fact, at least one online retailer is no longer accepting more pre-orders due to a lack of supply from the manufacturer.

Retail giant Amazon is reportedly canceling all Transformer Prime pre-orders placed on November 22nd and onwards, said PCWorld. Users over at xda-developers who pre-ordered the tablet are also claiming to have received emails from Amazon, which blame the sudden cancellations on “a lack of availability from suppliers.” Of course, refunds will be given to those affected.

Fortunately, other retailers are still accepting pre-orders for the Transformer Prime, such as Best Buy, but some retailers like Newegg are already out of stock as of this writing.

As the first Tegra 3 device, the hyped Transformer Prime tablet will have a lot to live up to in terms of performance.  Beyond its quad-core processor, the 10.1-inch tablet also boasts a 1280x800 resolution screen, 1 GB RAM, front-and-rear cameras and a listed battery life of up to 12 hours. The device itself will be the successor to the successful Eee Pad Transformer, which has been selling extremely well since its release.

The Transformer Prime is currently scheduled for a mid-December launch in the United States for $499. The optional keyboard and touchpad dock with extended battery life is expected to cost around $149.
