Alienware M18x now on sale, won't ship until May 24th

Teaser
Dell’s 18.4” monster gaming notebook can now be purchased for a base price of only $1,999

It looks like Dell’s earlier discontinuation of the M15x notebook did serve a good purpose- it made room for the M18x behemoth on Dell’s site. Dell’s latest addition to the Alienware gaming notebook family can now be configured online, but won’t be shipping till later this month.

If you’re looking for the most powerful 18.4” notebook out there, then the M18x might fit the bill (albeit a very expensive bill at that). The $1,999 base configuration of the laptop comes with a paltry Intel Core i7-2630QM, a 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 320GB HDD.

However, if you’re looking to take your gaming to the next level then the M18x can be upgraded to an Intel Core i7-2920XM overclocked to 4GHz for only $975 more. On the other hand, if you really feel like splurging then you can tack on Dual 2GB AMD Radeon HD 6970M GPUs in CrossFire X, 32GB of RAM, dual 256GB SSDs in RAID 0 and bring that price tag all the way up to around $6,700. Sadly, there doesn’t appear to be any option to reduce the weight of the notebook as the M18x starts at a hefty 5.41kg (11.93lbs).

In any case, if you choose the base configuration or go all out like there’s no tomorrow, Dell’s latest invention won’t be shipping till the 24th of May; providing ample time to take out a 2nd mortgage in order to help finance your purchase.
