Alienware 15
Alienware is a well-established gaming laptop brand with numerous supporters all over the world. They have now come out with Alienware 15 which promises unbridled processing power. First off, its 15.6 inch Active Matrix TFT Color LCD features a 1600 x 900 resolution. The Alienware 15 comes with an option of whether customers want to upgrade the display to an Ultra HD. Customers can also choose whether they want an anti-glare FullHD IPS display or a TrueLife screen with touchscreen features. The black and solid body is almost 2" (5.08 cm) thick and weighs about 4 kg. This is because the body is made from copper, aluminium and carbon fibre. The measurements are actually thinner compared to previous Alienware models. The powerful processor within this machine is an Intel Quad Core i7-720QM that can clock at up to 1.6 GHz. Paired with the processor is an Nvidia GTX 970m graphics card. The other hardware within the laptop are 8 GB of RAM, a 1 TB hard disk with a speed of 5400 rpm and a 3 GB GDDR5 VRAM. Gamers would be happy to know that there are Klipsch 2.1 audio speakers built in, as well as an 8 cell 92 Wh battery, which can last about 2 hours. Dell continues to make some excellent performance and stylish mobile gaming laptops which the Alienware 15 is part of. Price is very reasonable and the configuration is highly customizable in terms of both components and the look thanks to the lighting. With gaming console sales going up, one would imagine that the gaming PC market will be reduced to hardcore desktops for enthusiasts. However, the gaming laptop market is still very much alive in a few manufacturers and the one that leads the way is none other than Alienware. The Alienware 15 R3-10881SLV is a gaming laptop with a balance of power and portability come together. It is powered by a sixth generation Intel Core i7 processor coupled with 16 GB RAM and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 GPU with 8 GB GDDR5 VRAM. The GeForce GPUs of the GTX 10 series deliver up to three times the performance of the previous-generation GPUs. Hence, the are capable of delivering fastest, smoothest and most power-efficient gaming experience. The graphic card also supports 4K gaming and is ready for VR. As for storage, the laptop comes with a 1 TB hard drive for high capacity and a 256 GB SSD for fast boot up and saving or loading large files. All these hardware screams gaming, which is the main purpose of this laptop.
The Alienware 15 R3-10881SLV's chassis is made of magnesium alloy which ensures structural rigidity. Copper ensures optimal thermal management for maximum performance and reinforced steel contributes to the overall tactile comfort. Thanks to the premium material choice, the gaming laptop has definitely a high-quality build and balances performance and portability well. In addition, the laptop supports a higher maximum TDP, which indicates that it can stay cool even under extreme graphics load thanks to an improved cooling system. The keyboard of the laptop is an upgraded Alienware TactX keyboard with support of N-key rollover. It enables over 108-key commands for maximum actions per minute on a notebook with a key travel of 2.2 mm.
The Alienware 15 R3-10881SLV features a anti-glare 15.6-inch IPS display with Full HD resolution. The 120 Hz display is designed to deliver smooth gaming experience with 4 ms response time, wide viewing angles, 400 nits of brightness and Nvidia G-sync technology. The anti-glare display minimizes reflections for better viewing experience, especially outdoors. The display is brilliant but being a major gaming laptop, it would have been nicer if this laptop had been fitted with a higher resolution display. After all, some basic laptops these days already feature a Full HD display. For audio experience, the Alienware 15 R3-10881SLV has the Alienware Sound Center and Audio Recon software installed on its 2.0 speaker setup. It is also capable of delivering 7.1 digital audio via the HDMI-out.
As for dimensions, the Alienware 15 R3-10881SLV measures at 38.89 x 30.48 x 2.54 cm (15.31 x 12.00 x 1.00 inch) and weighs at 3.63 kg (8.0 lbs). It has a 6 cell lithium-ion battery to provide power on the go but being a laptop with this many features, it would be foolish to expect a long standby time. The Alienware 15 R3-10881SLV is the dream machine for many gamers. It gets as close to perfection as a laptop can get. The only laptops that are better than it are the ones with the Nvidia GeForce GTX1080 graphics card, but those cost considerably more.

Obviously, for any kind of software use the notebook is also the real deal. But it’s very far from a portable model with almost 8 pounds weight. So if you want a stationary, super powerful gaming laptop and you’re not short on money, this Dell should deliver just what you want!

Dell’s supreme gaming rig is back with the revamp of the Alienware 15 series. It still looks domineering in its largely silver and black façade yet it has developed into a form which is lean and modernized. Build-wise, it is apparent that Dell does not compromise on its quality as the machine appears firm and robust, typical for an Alienware gaming unit. Its dimensions measure at 389 x 305 x 25.4 mm and it weighs approximately 3.49kg. It is flanked with a multicolour keyboard with levels of backlighting offers total AlienFX control. This will definitely make gaming more exciting as it is customisable to suit gamers’ preference. Furthermore, both keyboard and touchpad are sensitive and responsive. They are definitely good enough for a gaming machine. It boasts a 15.6 inch 16:9 ratio (resolution of 1920 x 1080pixel, 141 PPI) with IPS technology and anti-glare finish which displays incredible visuals, a condition which is indispensable for gamers. Visuals rendered are sharp and crisp with remarkable clarity. The Alienware 15 R3-3831SLV is powered by the Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor. This powerful CPU is coupled with the impressive NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics adapter and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. With such specs, the system will run smoothly no matter the game thrown at it. It also comes with 1TB HDD 7200rpm with 128GB SSD. There is definitely more than enough power on this machine allowing for 4k gaming and VR readiness. In addition, the Alienware 15 comes complete with a Windows Hello camera and Tobii eye tracking software, making full use of Microsoft's latest security features.
Its higher maximum thermal design power (TDP) keeps temperature under control and the system stays cool even under extreme graphics pressure. Audio experience is equally remarkable as it is fitted with a larger and more effective speaker box which improves audio output for a clearer and more dramatic gaming experience. The Killer DoubleShot Pro technology on the Wi-Fi antenna maximizes bandwidth to provide optimal gaming speeds. Dell attempts to keep the system clutter-free by positioning most of its connectivity on the back side of the machine. Connectivity includes 3 USB 3.0/3.1 Gen1 ports, 1 Thunderbolt port, 1 HDMI port, 1 DisplayPort, and 1 audio jack. If there is one feature that Dell could have included in this rig, it will be G-Sync which features prominently in most of Alienware’s rivals. The 68 Wh Lithium-Ion, 4-cell battery is able to provide users with average battery life. All in all, the Alienware may be a pricey machine, gamers are nevertheless guaranteed an incredible gaming experience. It will suite serious gamers well but the competition is very harsh in this category.

Bottom line, the AW15R3 is not as cheap as other laptops, and doesn’t offer almost nothing above the competitors like the GT62VR and Clevo P650RP6/P650RS. Not only that, some machines with GTX 1070 can be found for the same price from time to time. I think that for many, the extra connection ports may not be as important as lower price and better thermals and GSync, like in the case of the MSI GT62VR (which has an MXM GPU that can be upgraded).

We welcome the modern cooling design and lower heat internals that are very 2016, and the (dare I say) classy looking aluminum and soft touch black finishes. Pricing is more attainable too, and for a few hundred dollars more, you get a more high end look than the competition (honorable mention to the Asus ROG G752 that's out there but still looks like high class goods). Of course, you get an unparalleled AlienFX LED lightshow too, in all its zone programmable chroma goodness--and that can all be turned off with the press of a button so you can take it to work and not be teased.

To sum up the Alienware 15 R3 gaming laptop with GTX 1070, it’s a solid option for those looking for a portable powerhouse for gaming. The only caveat and issue for me is the 120Hz screen wasn’t really stretched in our testing; not one of the games we tested managed to hit 120fps at maximum settings. This makes the 120Hz a little pointless in games other than those less intensive and having a Gysnc enabled screen makes all the difference to those wishing to avoid screen tearing. Everything was great in all honesty and the Alienware 15 R3 is a solid option for those wanting a GTX 1070, but still want all the benefits of being able to game on the move!

With a dedicated PCI-Express X4 Gen 3 with up to 40Gbps throughput, users never have to worry about the disadvantages that come with a shared connection. As a conclusion, the Alienware 15 R4 is a very powerful and highly engineered laptop which allows gamers to game on the go. It has a very stylish and stable design which is built to last. However, it has a thicker build which results in a heavier weight.

Alienware: Alienware was founded in the USA in 1996. The European headquarters is located in Ireland. Alienware has been part of the Dell Group since 2006. The product range mainly focuses on gaming laptops and desktops, which are developed and manufactured by Dell. The trademark is a slightly futuristic design with an Alien as the logo. Additionally, workstations for private and business customers are sold.
As with every brand, there are also some points of criticism with Alienware. Some customers have complained about the high prices of the products, while others have criticized the quality of customer services. There have also been some reports of problems with the reliability and durability of some Alienware products. However, many customers have also had positive experiences with the brand and appreciate the powerful gaming computers.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M:
Second fastest high-end graphics card based on the Maxwell GM204 chip from the GeForce GTX 900M series.
AMD Radeon R9 M295X: High end mobile graphics card from AMD that is based on the Tonga chip (third generation of GCN) and was first used in the 5K iMac 2014.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M: Lower high-end graphics card based on the Maxwell chip GM204 and GM206 (newer 2016 version with higher clock rates). Part of the GeForce GTX 900M series.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M:
Fast high-end graphics card based on the Maxwell GM204 chip from the GeForce GTX 900M series.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile: The mobile GTX 1060 is based on the GP106 chip and offer 1280 shaders. Compared to the identically named desktop version it features a slightly lower clock rate. Games in Full HD and maximum details should run fluently on the card.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Mobile: Pascal based high-end mobile graphics card based on a cut down GP104 (like the GTX 1080) and GDDR5 graphics memory. Successor to the GTX 980M with a 10 Watts higher TDP. Similar to the desktop GTX 1070 performance wise, but with more shaders and lower clock speeds.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Max-Q: Efficient high end graphics card with 8 GB GDDR5X-VRAM based on the Pascal GP104 chip. Equipped with 2560 shader units and offers about 10-15% lower performance than a regular GTX 1080 due to lower clocks, but the power consumption is much lower in return.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Mobile: Pascal based laptop graphics card using GDDR5 graphics memory. Should offer a similar performance to the deskto GTX 1080. However, there is also a more power efficient "Max-Q" version that performs worse than the normal GTX1080 and is used in thin and light laptops.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
4710HQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.5 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.
6700HQ: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
6820HK: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
Intel Core i5:
4210H: Haswell-based dual-core processor clocked at 2.9 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.5 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. Very high TDP (47 W).
6300HQ: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
6300U: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 520 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
Intel Kaby Lake:
i7-7700HQ: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture. Besides four CPU cores (including Hyper Threading), the chips also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU and is manufactured in an improved 14 nm process.
i7-7820HK: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture running at 2.9 - 3.9 GHz. It is the second fastest model of the consumer H-series in the beginning of 2017. The chip also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU clocked at 350 - 1100 MHz and is manufactured in a 14 nm process (improved compared to Skylake). Compared to the Core i7-7820HQ, the 7820HK lacks business features like vPro or TXT support.
Intel Coffee Lake:
i9-8950HK: On Coffee Lake architecture based processor for big and heavy laptops. Integrates six processor cores clocked at 2.9- 4.8 GHz (4.3 GHz with 6 cores) that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++). Offers an unlocked multiplier that allows overclocking of the CPU.
i7-8750H: On Coffee Lake architecture based processor for big and heavy laptops. Integrates six processor cores clocked at 2.2 - 4.1 GHz (4 GHz with 4 cores, 3.9 GHz with 6 cores) that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++).
