Quad-core snail. The One Touch Easy Alcatel was a bestseller - 15 years ago. Meanwhile a lot has happened. The successor comes with a quad-core SoC and a 5-inch display and will stir up the entry-level segment. It is very unlikely that it is able achieve the same sales figures though.

High contrast. Alcatel's One Touch Pop 4S "flagship" handset of the Pop 4 lineup is all set to run through our test course. The affordable mid-range smartphone offers an interesting technical configuration in conjunction with a very high-contrast IPS screen. However, its system performance cannot compete with equally priced mid-range smartphones.

You wouldn’t want to switch to this from a mid-range device, but as a basic smartphone it’s an undeniable bargain.

The Alcatel Pop 4 is a pretty complete handset that runs on near-stock Android and has solid performance for general UI browsing and frugal apps. Unfortunately, the ageing hardware inside struggles when it comes to anything but the most basic tasks. Combine this with only 8GB internal memory and you’ll be hitting the bottleneck far too quickly, which renders the device useless to most people including basic users.

The Alcatel Pixi 4 launched at Rs. 4,999 but it’s now selling for a bit more at Rs. 5,499 through Flipkart. This is a fairly modern entry-level phone as you get Android Marshmallow and 4G VoLTE support. However, be prepared for below-average app and camera performance.

3.50:
This display is tiny. You will probably see very little on the screen and be able to use mini-resolutions.
5.00:
It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

69.93%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
