The Advent Sienna 710 has a solid chassis, bright display and strong performance, but its flaws are too pronounced. There's greater value to be had elsewhere in this group.

The Advent Sienna 710 is pitched as a powerful, yet affordable, entertainment laptop that's ideal for use around the home. Its price tag of £700 is quite reasonable, given that it includes a muscular Core i7 processor, but does it have the chops to cut it as a family PC? The 15.6-inch Advent Sienna 710 laptop has a very fast processor, but its specification isn't as balanced as we would have liked.

At such a low price and with its stunning screen, the Sienna 700 is an affordable and usable way to enjoy Intel's Core i7 technology. Its limited features and poor build make it tough to recommend against its rivals, however, so make sure you try before you buy.

The Advent Sienna 510 is a decent low-cost laptop, but the Acer Aspire 5742 is considerably better if you can find an extra £70

If you need a powerful laptop and aren't too bothered about portability or build quality, then the Sienna 510 is a steal for the price. Unfortunately, though, the build quality and portability really do let the side down. If either is important to you, head to PC World and try before you buy.

Advent: This is the laptop brand of the hardware magazine PC World. The marketing focusses UK. Reviews of Advent-Laptops are relatively frequent and not only by PC World.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
620M:
The Core i7-620M is the fastest Dual-Core CPU for laptops (at the time of introduction in Q1 2010). The 620M clocks betwenn 2.66 and 3.33 GHz due to the Turbo Mode and because of Hyperthreading, 4 threads are executed simultaneously. In the package, Intel also included a second die with an integrated GPU (GMA HD) and a memory controller. Therefore, the TDP of 35 Watt of the whole package is still quite good.
Intel Core i5:
430M:
The Core i5-430M is a middle class dual core CPU that features only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-640M) and clocks between 2.26-2.53 GHz (Turbo Mode). Furthermore, VT-d, trusted Execution and AES features are missing in the 430M. Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics with 500-733 MHz) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.
