Reviews for the Advent Eclipse E300

50% Advent Eclipse E300 review
Source: Techradar English

There's no optical drive, unlike a lot of other ultraportables, although networking is decent with 802.11n Wi-Fi and 10/100 Ethernet available for wireless and wired connectivity. While the Advent Eclipse E300 is one the slimmest and lightest laptop of its size, the poor battery life reduces portability. Usability is strong, and the screen sharp, but the bland chassis and blander performance make this a hard laptop to recommend.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Onboard (shared Memory) GPU built in the GM45, GE45 and GS45 chipset (Montevina). Because of two more shaders and a higher core clock, much faster than the old GMA X3100. Still not advisable for gamers (DirectX 10 games not playable or only with very low settings). The integrated video processor is able to help decode HD videos (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , e.g., for a fluent Blu-Ray playback with slow CPUs.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel Celeron Dual-Core: The Intel Celeron Dual-Core familiy consists out of dual core CPUs for cheap laptops. Compared to the Celeron M single core family the biggest advantage (in addition to the second core) is the Enhanced Speedstep function, which enables the notebook to downclock the CPU in Idle mode. Therefore, the current consumption can be much lower. Compared to the Core (2) Duo or Pentium Dual-Core processors, the Celeron Cual-Core features much less L2 Cache which leads to a lower performance per clock.

SU2300: Entry level dual core CPU for small laptops. Offers only a low level performance due to the low clock speed and because of the Celeron brand some power saving features are disabled.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

13.0": This is a common display format for subnotebooks. Netbooks, UMPC and some subnotebooks have tinier displays. Nevertheless, the majority of standard laptops has a higher format. The advantage of a small display is, that the subnotebook can be small dimensioned and can be carried easily. Further the small display needs few energy, which improves the battery runtime and in consequence the mobility. The disadvantage is that the reading of texts is a bit exhausting for the eyes, especially with high resolutions.» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

1.7 kg: This sub-notebook weighs less than the average of all notebooks and represents a medium class of weight among the sub-notebooks. 11 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

Advent: This is the laptop brand of the hardware magazine PC World. The marketing focusses UK. Reviews of Advent-Laptops are relatively frequent and not only by PC World.

50%: This average evaluation is exceptionally bad. There exist hardly any laptops, which are rated so negative.
