Actions Semiconductor releases the quad-core ATM7039 SoC

The new high performance chipset for tablets from China packs four Cortex-A9 cores next to PowerVR graphics and dual channel 64-bit memory interface.

Actions Semiconductor is a fabless semiconductor company from China known for its portable multimedia and mobile SoC solutions which has just released its new high performance ATM7039 chipset aimed at Android tablets.

This advanced tablet solution comes with full Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean support and consists of a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor at 1.6 GHz, PowerVR graphics with 2K by 4K decoding "including support of the newest international standard--high definition HVEC/H.265 video" and a dual channel 64-bit DRAM interface. In addition to the above, the ATM7039 SoC features intelligent brightness control that improves autonomy and reduces eye strain.

According to Dr. Zhenyu Zhou, CEO of Actions Semiconductor "Together with ATM7021, ATM7023 and ATM7029, the introduction of ATM7039 brings a more complete product offering to the tablet market that targets each segment, from entry level to high-end, and positions us to further penetrate the mobile Internet enabled multimedia market."

Thanks to this SoC, new quad-core tablets sporting resolutions up to 2,048X1,536 pixels may soon hit the market, offering an excellent performance/cost ratio.
