Acer releases the TravelMate 8481 in the UK

Teaser
The Travelmate 8481 comes with Optimus and one of the latest Intel core processors

Not many times we have seen Acer releasing something in UK first – at least ahead of US. This time around things changed as the next notebook from the Taiwanese company hit Europe to start with, UK to be specific. Called the Acer TravelMate 8481, this 14” notebook will have a LED backlit screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It looks like a matte display from whatever pictures we have in hand.

The machine will use one of the recent Intel Core processors (model not specified) coupled with the Intel HD Graphics 3000. Do not frown looking at the integrated card, as there will also be an option of coupling it with an NVIDIA discrete GPU with Optimus technology. The technology from NVIDIA lets you switch between integrated and discrete graphics cards automatically and seamlessly, so that you can save battery with the integrated graphics card while writing that mail, but play a demanding game as well courtesy of the NVIDIA dedicated card.

There is also something called Intel Wireless Display that allows you to shoot the images on screen out to a larger display or TV without needing wires. There are the usual I/O ports and wireless connectivity options but with the latest USB 3.0 support.

The 8481 will launch in the UK anytime in August for £699 (equivalent to US $1127) plus VAT.
