Acer Aspire M Touch Review
Source: Slashgear English
The Aspire M Touch is a sleek-looking laptop, and there’s no doubt about that. Some of the design elements are a bit wonky, though. For example, most of the important ports that you need to get to are all located on the back, save for the headphone/microphone jack and the SD card slot. It makes sense to have the power port and the HDMI port on the back, that way you have cables sticking out from the sides, but having all the USB ports located on the back of the laptop is just a plain nuisance. However despite the low travel of the keyboard keys and the plastic trackpad, using both actually wasn’t too bad; it was certainly a better experience than other Windows laptops that I’ve played with, so I can’t complain too much in that respect.

WIRED Decent weight for a 14-inch laptop at 4.4 pounds. Exemplary battery life for its class. Quite slim for an optical drive-equipped laptop. TIRED Touchy touchpad. Front-mounted power button is prone to accidental presses. All ports are rear-mounted. Extremely weak LCD. Some general bugginess during daily use.

All said and done, the Acer Aspire M Touch is a solidly built laptop with very good specs. It provides satisfying performance in both daily usage and some modern games without making too much noise and heat, and a decent battery life as well. Price wise it’s very hard to beat, and as we’ve seen from the Aspire S7 ultrabook, Acer seems to be turning a new leaf with their laptop design.

The Acer M5-481PT feels like a holdover of a bygone era in laptop design, where all laptops tried to be all things to all people. While its robust feature set and solid build quality are impressive for the modest $800 pricetag, the M5 feels like an outlier in the Ultrabook class, a product line defined by extreme portability and sleek design.

The Acer Aspire M5-481PT-6488 is an attractive Windows 8 Ultrabook in more ways than one. The brushed aluminum design gives this 14-inch laptop a premium vibe, as does the touch screen and high-quality speaker system. With its sleek, sturdy chassis, Core i5 power, and affordable price tag, the Acer Aspire M5-581T-6405 is a good choice for users looking to enter the Windows 8 ultrabook arena without spending a fortune. Granted, it's larger than most of its competitors, but it's still very portable and you get a bright 15.6-inch screen in return. Touch-screen technology would make this a Windows 8 ultrabook to be reckoned with, however. If you have some wiggle room in your budget, consider the Acer Aspire M5-481PT-6644, our Editors' Choice for entry level touch-screen ultrabooks. The Acer Aspire M5-583P-6637 is a decent day-to-day laptop with a fair feature set and adequate performance. The biggest thing going for the system, however, is the price, which puts it at the inexpensive end of the midrange desktop-replacement category. It may not offer the most impressive performance numbers or tout the latest features, but it will provide a decent touch-enabled system for a list price of $629.99, where competitors are frequently priced higher. For the best in the category, however, consider the Editors' Choice Asus N550JV-DB72T, which offers a full HD display, better sound quality, and more powerful processing and graphics hardware, but has a list price of $400 more.

The reason why so many people like displays with medium size is, that this size is not exhausting for the eyes, does not need too much energy and the laptops can be kept quite compact.

15.6: 15 inch display-variants are the standard and are used for more than the half of all notebooks. 15.4 inch display with 16:10 are the standard for notebook displays. However nowadays, more and more 16:9 displays with 15.6 inch appear.
