Fanless. Just low 250 Euros have to be shelled out for Acer's new 11.6-inch netbook. The customer gets a matte screen, quad-core processor, and a very decent keyboard for that. Our report shows whether its worth buying.

The Acer E3-111 is a great-value laptop, managing competent performance for a price many buyers will find attractive. With that low price come the usual compromises including patchy build quality and a poor screen, but these problems are present on all budget netbooks. If you want something more colourful, the Asus X200MA would be a fine alternative.

It isn't just a simple matter of performance anymore - customers have loads of choices at the entry-level now, and no single type of product is necessarily better than any other. The Acer Aspire E3-111 is a good example of an entry-level laptop with no support for touch input, but a fairly good keyboard and a large hard drive for getting work done with. On the other hand, "2-in-1" tablets such as the Notion Ink Cain (Review | Photos), which we just reviewed, also cost just about the same amount of money, but have very different advantages and disadvantages. If portability is the main concern, it's also seriously worth considering whether an iPad or Android tablet would serve your needs better.

72%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
