7.85" HP 8 tablet now available for $170
With little ado, Hewlett-Packard has just announced the HP 8 tablet, a 7.85" mid-range offering. The device joins the Slate 7 and Slate 10 in the company's Android lineup, but does little to stand out from the rest of the pack.
As far as specs go, the device's IPS display runs at a resolution of just 1024x768 pixels and is powered by an Allwinner quad-core CPU along with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The tablet should last up to 7 hours on its 3800mAh battery, and HP is adding 25GB of lifetime storage from Box to go along with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
As a whole, the HP 8 does little to inspire, featuring a bland design and run-of-the-mill specs for a tablet in its range. One bright spot may be a price tag of just $170, but even that makes it a difficult choice when compared to the $139 Kindle Fire HD or the $229 Nexus 7.
